Referral

On 10 September 2013, the Health Legislation Amendment Bill 2013 was introduced into the Legislative Assembly by the Hon Lawrence Springborg MP, Minister for Health. 

The Bill was referred to the Health and Community Services Committee in accordance with Standing Order 131. The committee is required to report to the Parliament by 22 October 2013.

The Bill

The Bill proposes amendments to the following health portfolio Acts:

  • Food Act 2006 to stop the introduction of a state-wide voluntary food business rating scheme (by amending the Health Legislation Amendment Act 2011)
  • Hospitals and Health Boards Act 2011 to provide for the transfer of land and buildings between the Department of Health and Hospital and Health Services (HHS) and between HHS
  • Public Health Act 2005 to establish the Maternal Death Statistics Collection, to help monitor maternal mortality rates, increase awareness of the incidence and causes of maternal death, monitor and analyse maternity outcomes and research obstetric care
  • Queensland Institute of Medical Research Act 1945 to enable the membership of the Council of the QIMR to be staggered and to allow the Council to enter into agreements without a requirement to obtain the approval of the Director-General of Queensland Health
  • Transplantation and Anatomy Act 1979 to modernise the definition of ‘senior available next of kin’ and to address operational issues.
