The petition of the citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the area north of the Kolan River collectively known as the Miara Properties, consisting of 28 Freehold and 3 Leasehold lots of rural zoned land totaling 5355 ha. being located within the Burnett Shire Local Government area, is currently being offered for sale by the owners Bundaberg Sugar Pty Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Belgian Sugar Company, FlNASUCRE, based in Brussels. The land referred to has been identified as having high biodiversity values that are of State, Regional and Local significance. The Queensland Environmental Protection Agency Wildnet Database shows a listing of 19 potential endangered vulnerable and rare species which may be present within the Miara properties. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to seek negotiations with Bundaberg Sugar Pty. Ltd. to purchase the said Miara Properties as a whole for inclusion in the National Estate, and dedication as a National Park.
