TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents and small business presently do not benefit from the convenient sale of alcohol products from convenience stores and supermarkets as is available in other Australian and international jurisdictions. Given the extensive control of the hotel and bottleshop markets by supermarket chains, there is little rationale for the continued unavailability of alcohol products in convenience stores and supermarkets. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend the liquor licensing practices to enable licensing of convenience stores and supermarkets for the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises without need to be a detached bottle shop associated with an existing licensed premises.
