TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
We, the undersigned residents of the City of Redcliffe, petition the Parliament of the State of Queensland, the Local Government Reform Commission to (1.) Recognise Redcliffe City as a viable and sustainable Local Government area that should remain as a City in its own right and (2.) Due to the significant "Community of Interest" expand the City to include the adjacent areas of Deception Bay and Mango Hill within its boundaries. Redcliffe City as a Sustainable Local Government Area is clearly shown by the following: 1. A strong population base of over 50,000 people. Although small in size Redcliffe has more people per Sq. Km. than any other area of Queensland. 2. A sound financial rating base, whose financial status was recently rated as "Strong" by the Queensland Treasury under SSS. 3. Strong and recent evidence of active "Regional Collaboration" on Roads, Recreational Activities, Recreational Areas, Telecommunications and possible IT purchases with Caboolture and Pine Shires. 4. Strong and recent evidence of collaboration with the State Government on Regional Centres. Sport and Recreation and 150th Anniversary Legacy funding although the City is not dependent on these and other Federal matching grants. 5. The intrinsic part Redcliffe plays in the History of Oueensland as the site of first white settlement. For all the above reasons we strongly disagree with any complete amalgamation with adjacent shires.
