TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Electors of Redlands, Capalaba, & Cleveland draws to the attention of the House: - the strong community opposition to the potential amalgamation of Redland Shire with another council (such as Logan); - the lack of relevant community consultation by the Queensland Government in mandating council amalgamations; and - the abrogation of the communities’ basic democratic rights taken away by this State Government with the removal of any appeal avenue reflected in changes to the Local Government Act on the outcome of this process. Your petitioners therefore request the House to: - Acknowledge the strong sense of community identity and Council’s financial sustainability that exists in Redland Shire. - Not consider any amalgamation of this Shire and recognize the effects this will have on businesses, families, jobs and the economic sustainability of our community.
