This petition of the citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the Government's proposal to build a dam on the Teviot Brook at Wyaralong, between Boonah and Beaudesert. Construction of a dam at Wyaralong would have devastating social, economic and environmental costs for the community. This is not a high rainfall area and a dam in this location would not be a reliable water source. (The closest existing dam, Moogerah, is currently at 6% capacity.) There are much more cost-effective and sustainable alternative options such as recycling. Your petitioners therefore request the House to not proceed with the construction of a dam at Wyaralong.
