The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House its objection to the use of the Connection Road as the major southern arterial into the city of Nambour, given the growing local communities it bisects, the impact of a high-speed arterial road (on both safety and amenity) in those communities and the increasing disconnectivity between the road and the surrounding communities. Your petitioners request the House to consider an alternative southern arterial route into the town of Nambour from the Bruce Highway via the Petrie Creek Road precinct. We also acknowledge the current project for which funding has been approved, which alters the intersections of MacKenzie Road and Blackall Street with the Nambour Connection Road. We believe some aspects of the current proposal negatively impact on residents and business in the communities of both Woombye and Palmwoods, and places Woombye State School children at risk by unnecessarily increasing traffic past the school. We request time to investigate alternatives to the current proposal which ensure safe access to Woombye Village, lessen the impact on our local school, and meet budgetary and technical approval. We request a stay in the approval of current proposed works so we may put forward an alternative for consideration of this funding allocation.
