TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland Citizens draws to the attention of the House the proposed application for Permanent Road Closure of part of Carrington Street, Paddington in a location where the paved road surface is presently narrow and potentially dangerous. Local Residents fear the closure will prejudice any future opportunity to widen the road surface and provide a safe footpath for pedestrians. Further, any sub-division that this closure may facilitate will cause further traffic congestion and increase potential for traffic accidents. Currently, there is limited on-street parking available to visitors and no footpaths for pedestrians. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to refer this matter to the Minister for Natural Resources, Mr Henry Palaszczuk MP, for his attention asking him to refuse this Application on the basis that the current extent of paved road in Carrington Street, Paddington, is insufficient and further widening of the road will be necessary for vehicular access and general public safety. This potential road widening can only be achieved by using part of the road now proposed to be closed.
