TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House a unique area on the southern slopes of Mt Cotton, just 25 klms
from Brisbane’s GPO. Protected by ridge lines rising to nearly 200 metres on three sides the small valley with its unique
micro climate is home to endangered rainforest habitat with trees between 500 to 1000 years old and threatened Koala
habitat. It contains mature growth eucalypt forest, native grasslands and unique creek habitat. The combination of flora
and fauna, some endangered, are not found elsewhere in the Brisbane region. It is also unlike other preserved habitat in
the Mt Cotton precinct.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to not approve the inclusion of the drafted new quarry operation known as
Key Resource Area 71 for Mt Cotton and does not approve any expansion of the existing Mt Cotton Quarry operation in
State Development Plan and consider permanently preserving for the heritage of Queensland the 200 hectare property
195–203 Gramzow Road (Mt Cotton).
