Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House, the need for essential roadworks to be carried out on the Clifton-Leyburn Road in the Condamine Electorate.

The school bus carries 48 students along this road which was originally constructed of cement after World War II and has subsequently been repaired with bitumen in some places. Two sections of the road are in extremely poor condition with the school bus driver having to slow to 30km per hour to maintain control of the vehicle despite the speed limit on this road being 100km per hour.

The road is one lane with no formed shoulders, and dangerous drop offs meaning cars passing on the single lane must navigate two wheels off the road to pass each other. In the afternoons, staff leaving the nearby piggery often meet with the bus travelling in the opposite direction causing drivers to drop off the road multiple times.

This road is utilised by heavy transport vehicles delivering grain to nearby farms, and transferring stock to markets or to farms. Large trucks with trailers are often observed hitting sizeable pot holes causing them to swerve precariously whilst trying to maintain control of the heavy loads they are carrying.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the State Government of Queensland to immediately assess the speed limit on the Clifton-Leyburn Road and allocate funding to address the poor condition of the road by providing urgent upgrades to ensure the safety of drivers and all road users.
