Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the Sunshine Coast District currently has only four (4) water police officers who cover an area encompassing Tin Can Bay to north of Redcliffe to Somerset Dam. This number of officers cannot adequately cover the area, often leaving the Pumicestone Passage waterway without officers to monitor water speeds or drink driving. Urgent action is needed to increase the number of water police officers on the Sunshine Coast.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to increase the police numbers of the Sunshine Coast District Water Police to meet the increasing demands on the waters of Pumicestone Passage and associated canals and that a site be purchased in the Caloundra coastal area for a future base which will be needed with further increasing demands.
