Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the Noosa Council's decision to award a grant to Country Noosa to reopen the Eumundi Slaughterhouse to create "a bird to beast abattoir" while developing a local veal industry. Queenslanders, especially Noosa and Sunshine Coast residents, object to a new slaughterhouse due to the health and environmental implications affecting human and non-human animals. Furthermore, veal ("yearling beef") is an inherently cruel industry and is at odds with the expectations of the community.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to prevent the development of a Queensland veal industry and the opening of the Sunshine Coast "bird to beast" abattoir.
