The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the proposal by the Whitsunday Regional Council to seek funding to build a multi-million dollar boat ramp on Blackcurrant Island in Hydeaway Bay which would be in direct opposition to the wishes of the majority of the residents of Hydeaway Bay and Dingo Beach.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to consider a far more reasonable and much cheaper request to upgrade the existing boat ramp at Dingo Beach, leaving Blackcurrant Island in its pristine state. As the home of dugongs, turtles, stingrays and other marine life as well as flora mentioned on the endangered species list, Blackcurrant Island deserves to be protected and saved for the enjoyment of future generations.
