Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the Bicentennial Bikeway links QUT Gardens Point in the Brisbane CBD to Toowong running along the Brisbane River and is the busiest active transport corridor in the state. The Bicentennial Bikeway carries over 6500 pedestrian and bicycle movements each day. Due to this high volume of traffic, successive state governments in conjunction with Brisbane City Council have upgraded the Bicentennial Bikeway from a shared use corridor to a segregated use corridor between Herschel Street, Brisbane City and Toowong, with increased capacity, amenity and safety.

Queens Wharf development currently does not propose to upgrade the existing shared use corridor within their development envelope, instead proposing a continuation of shared use corridor "similar to Southbank promenade". The Southbank promenade corridor is broadly accepted as not best practice for a high volume active transport corridor. Conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists have been reported.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to require the Queens Wharf development to ensure that the entire section of the Bicentennial Bikeway that runs within the development envelope is upgraded to a segregated facility equivalent in standard to the Herschel St to Toowong section.
