TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the failure of the National Energy Market to deliver reasonably priced electricity to the Queensland community. The Queensland community owns 100% of the electricity network and the majority of the power generators. Queensland has retained these assets in public hands. These should be operated efficiently for the benefit of all Queenslanders. The National Energy Market rules do not allow that.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House take action to reduce electricity prices by:

a) Taking Queensland out of the National Energy Market and the rules which govern it.
b) Changing the method for calculating electricity prices to a cost plus basis.
c) Allowing the government to set the profit margin annually to ensure transparency and accountability.
