TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House a petition of the Australian South Sea Islander Movement Incorporation (Qld) that pursuant to the speech in Parliament on the 21st April 2016 by Mr Rick Williams MP State Member for Pumicestone.  The descendants of the Original South Sea Islanders who were Black Birded and brought to these shores join in the request for a formal apology from the Queensland Government As stated in the closing paragraph of Mr Rick Williams MP State Member for Pumicestone speech:

 

“All of Queensland was built on the back of the blood, sweat and tears of these Islanders. I say that no-one deserves the atrocity endured by these people. Nothing we can ever do will replace the loss suffered by them. As the state of Queensland we need to say that we are sorry.” Please unite with us in action to achieve this long overdue outcome for our people by signing your name in the below petition.

 

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take urgent action to achieve this long overdue outcome of a formal apology for our people by saying 'sorry'.
