The petition of electors of the Division of Townsville draws to the attention of the House the urgent need to upgrade the pedestrian crossing situated in front of Townsville Central State School on Warburton Street, North Ward, Townsville.

The safety and welfare of the primary school children attending this school, as well as adult commuters using this pedestrian crossing, is threatened due to the lack of clear distinguishability of the pedestrian actuated traffic signals in the surrounding vicinity.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take urgent action to make this pedestrian crossing a safer place for the primary school children and general public by replacing the current small 'school' signs (x4) located on Warburton Street, with larger signs, mounted with flashing lights, to warn motorists of the upcoming pedestrian crossing. It is also requested that provision of any other upgrade, as identified by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, is undertaken.
