Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the destructive, unnecessary, act of releasing helium balloons. Balloons are a common source of litter, which causes serious harm to our marine and wildlife, which is why they are banned in New South Wales.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend current litter and illegal dumping legislation to include a ban on releasing helium balloons, and investigate options to outlaw the mass-distribution of helium balloons at events, and imposing penalties for doing so.
