The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the Abortion Law Reform (Woman's Right to Choose) Amendment Bill 2016. The proposed legislation removes all protections for unborn Queenslanders that are currently in place and disregards the negative health impacts on women. Queenslanders were made aware earlier this year that 27 infants were born alive and left to die after abortions last year in our State. This is a horrifying number which will certainly increase if restrictions are lessened. We would rather that we have legislation in place that safeguards both women and children. We urge our State leaders to reject any laws that do not provide protection to all its citizens especially for its most vulnerable, the voiceless unborn.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to reject any changes to current Queensland abortion legislation.
