The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House their opposition to the proposed net fishing bans at Trinity Bay, St Helens Beach and Yeppoon/Keppel Bay and Fitzroy River. 75% of Queenslanders cannot or do not fish and rely on net fisheries to access fresh local fish. Queenslanders wish to retain their right to buy fresh local caught seafood and oppose any fishing closures.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to not support the proposed net fishing bans by the Palaszczuk Government at Trinity Bay, St Helens Beach and Yeppoon/Keppel Bay and Fitzroy River. We further request the House to block legislation that introduces resource allocation through the establishment of net free fishing zones in Queensland.
