The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House, what we believe, is an exorbitant supply charge for low users of reticulated AGL gas.

The fixed ‘Supply Charge' for gas is almost $100 per quarter and many households use much less than $50 in gas for the same period.  Single households that use gas only for hot water have used as little as $5 - $20 in gas for the last quarter and yet are faced with paying the enormous supply charge.  There is only one supplier for reticulated natural gas in our area.  In addition, the Queensland Government rebate for gas is almost one fifth of the rebate for electricity.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to make provision for:

• increasing the Queensland Government rebate for gas to match the current rebate for electricity.
