Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that it has been nearly 15 years since the ‘Comino Report' in which the State Government Rifle Range Advisory Panel recommended that Corella SF 700, (Wood Rd, Tamaree Rd) be excised from the Curra State Forest for the establishment of a district shooting range complex. This is despite the ongoing growth in the registration of sporting shooters in the region, the strong display of community support with the formation of the Cooloola Range Complex Association (CRCA), the approval of proposed range safety templates by the Queensland Police and subsequent ‘Difficult to Locate Sports' reports identifying the need for a new sporting range complex in the region.

The CRCA lodged a 74 page submission to the Cooloola Shire Council in 2003 for the establishment of a new range complex, however the local council has been ‘dragging the chain' resulting in the region missing out on the economic benefits that a new facility would bring to the area.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to immediately excise Corella SF 700 from the Curra State Forest and issue a lease to the local council for the land to be used for a sporting shooters range complex to address the current demand for a new range facilities in the region. If the Gympie Council is not willing to expedite such a lease for these purposes then your petitioners request the House to offer the lease to the CRCA.
