TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the need to extend the 80km speed limit zone along the Pialba Burrum Heads Road to just west of its intersection with Mitchell Avenue to ensure the safety of drivers entering and exiting intersecting streets in this locality.

In recent years there have been an increasing number of dwellings in the residential area to the north of Pialba Burrum Heads Road, which has resulted in a significant increase in population and traffic using the Petersen Road intersection, along with Castles Road North and South, Mal Campbell Drive and Mitchell Avenue to access these residential areas.  The traffic increase in the area has also been contributed to by the two golf courses and the quarry located in or off Castles Road South, and the continuing increase in the populations of the Burrum Heads and Toogoom communities which use this road to access Hervey Bay.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to extend the existing 80 km speed limit zone along Pialba Burrum Heads Road to include the section to just west of its intersection with Mitchell Avenue.
