TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that in relation to the flood damage of homes and properties at Pacific Haven in the district of Howard:

 

1. Major flooding has occurred twice; once on January 27th 2013 and once on February 22nd 1992.

 

2. The Friends of the Burrum River System Group say that major flooding can be mitigated and largely avoided by simple re-engineering and removing of soil from a narrow causeway on the last bend of the Cherwell River, which leads to the Burrum River.

 

3. The Friends of the Burrum River System Group have lobbied all relevant Local and State Government authorities with their simple flood mitigation and prevention solution.

 

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to pass a motion that calls on the State, Federal and Local Governments to co-operate with the Friends of the Burrum River System Group and put in place their flood mitigation and prevention solution for residents of Pacific Haven.
