Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the need to upgrade the Nambour train station so it can comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. Kurt Fernley, Young Australian of the Year, in his Australia Day address said, "What matters is that we as a community own the fact that we haven't done enough and that when we turn that fact around, we as a community will all be better off".

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to allocate the funds so that the upgrade to the Nambour train station can go ahead.  It should include lift access from the concourse to the subway, improved ticket access, a new ticket window constructed at wheel chair height, state of the art disability access through a drop-off zone for disabled customers near the entrance and a new audio system to make announcements clearer for people wearing hearing aids.  We also request the House to look at upgrading other train stations, like the Dakabin station.
