TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the state of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the planned development of an open cut coal mine 3km from the town of Taroom. We consider the health outcomes of both open cut coal mining and coal seam gas, through the impact on air an water quality as well as noise and vibration to pose a considerable health impact on local residents.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House (as the state government is responsible for the health of the residents) to ask the Minister for Mines and Energy to ensure that no mining applications are granted within 10km of the township of Taroom and that a 10km buffer zone is established around the town.
