TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House relevant background to this petition:

1. Oateson Skyline Drive has been served by public transport since before 1961 and this has determined the composition and structure of the area.

2. The route 212 is a 'high value for money' route according to the SEQ Bus Network Review Report March 2013 (the report).

3. The route 212 is defined as a 'coverage' route in the report.

4. The report specifies that appropriate improvement strategies for 'coverage' routes is to adjust service frequencies or hours of operation.

The proposed closure of the bus route 212 along Oateson Skyline Drive will:

1. substantially negatively affect route 212 bus users because they would have to walk up to 1 km in steep topography when they currently have to walk less than 100 m to bus stops.

2. resulting from the reduction in public transport convenience, the urban renewal on-going in the area and the development of the TAFE site as a residential zone more private vehicles will drive along Oateson Skyline Drive. This will increase congestion (particularly at the Morningside roundabout at peak times), increasing road maintenance costs and reducing public safety.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:

1. Reverse the proposed decision to close the bus route 212.

2. Review the frequency and hours of operation of route 212 with the objective of increasing patronage.
