TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the overturning of current restrictions on development levels in the Riverside South Precinct of West End, from 7 to 12 storeys by the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, the Honourable Jeff Seeney MP.

Minister Seeney has overturned a former Ministerial directive to the Lord Mayor of Brisbane to restrict height limits in the precinct to a maximum of 7 storeys as there are inadequate community services in the area to meet the demands of a significant increase in the residential population.  The lifting of the height restriction by 70% can in no way be considered minor and will have a devastating effect on the local community.

Your petitioners note that Brisbane City Council has moved quickly to amend the South Brisbane Riverside Neighbourhood Plan to reflect the increased height limits.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Minister to urgently rescind the Ministerial directive and request council not approve any development applications for the Riverside South Precinct of West End until a full and thorough community consultation on the proposed changes to height restrictions in the precinct.
