The petition of electors of the Division of Redlands draws to the attention of the House the current dangerous situation at Mt Cotton where Carissa Street is used as part of the 282 bus route by Translink. The road is unsuitable for this use due to the following:

  • It has a bend with low visibility on the corner creating a new and potentially dangerous situation;
  • Buses have been regularly observed travelling in excess of speed limit along Carissa Street;
  • Near misses have been observed where motorists and other users are having to get out of the way of the buses to avoid a collision, particularly when entering, exiting the kerbside; (some near misses have been reported to Police for action)
  • Buses are running in excess of twice an hour, there is an increase in noise caused by the buses travelling in either direction resulting in new stresses for residents of what is normally a peaceful suburban street.
  • Most buses are running empty or close to;
  • It is impacting on the environment and indicating a waste of taxpayer dollars;
  • There has been inadequate community consultation to this change, particularly to effected residents of Carissa Street.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to remove this service from this residential street, Carissa Street, Mt Cotton without further delay.
