Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the amalgamation of the Mareeba Shire with the Atherton Tablelands was enforced without prior negotiation or consultation.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to note that we the undersigned members of the voting population of the former Mareeba Shire, hereby petition the Queensland Government to conduct a referendum on the de-amalgamation of the former Mareeba Shire on the understanding we will be responsible for the cost of de-amalgamation.
