The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the negative impact likely to be caused to local koala and wildlife populations during the construction of the Moreton Bay Rail Link.  The safety of koalas is of particular concern and a range of options should be considered.  These include the relocation of sub adult and juvenile koalas up to 4 years of age to other sites containing koala habitat supporting primary and secondary tree species.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to ensure the Rail Link Project team work in partnership with local wildlife rescue organisations, research institutions and other relevant government bodies to undertake detailed surveying of the rail corridor, identify suitable offset locations as soon as possible and to seek to minimise the impact to local wildlife populations during construction of the rail link.
