TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that a significant proportion of Queenslanders believe that:

  • marriage, being the foundation of the family unit, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others;
  • a civil partnerships system mimics marriage and attempts to set up a marriage-like system,
  • the Civil Partnerships Act 2011 was passed without proper consultation with Queenslanders,
  • repealing the Civil Partnerships Act 2011 can be done in such a way that same-sex couples retain all their rights and privileges under Queensland and Australian law and do not suffer any legal discrimination.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to repeal the Civil Partnerships Act 2011 in line with the LNP election promise.
