Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that:

1. Childers Hospital is an important hospital for a growing regional community which is situated on the busy main highway.

2. Childers Hospital does not employ any resident doctors who are physically at the hospital seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

3. Childers residents are proud of the service provided by the Childers Hospital medical professionals, however, are concerned by an "on call arrangement" for doctors

4. Childers medical professionals and residents feel that patient safety is compromised by the fact that Queensland Health has not allocated enough resources to ensure that a doctor is able to be physically present at the hospital 24/7.

5. Childers medical professionals and residents feel that patient safety would be significantly increased if more than just three GPs had admitting and treating rights at the hospital.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to take all steps necessary to ensure that Childers Hospital is resourced sufficiently, ensuring that a doctor is able to by physically present at the hospital 24/7, or at the very least, a doctor physically present at the hospital seven days a week from 7am to 9.30pm.
