Electors of the Division of Mirani draws to the attention of the House the coal export industry specifically Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Management (DBCTM) and North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) are considering whether to use a large portion of land at Louisa Creek for coal stockyards.  If this was to occur some 60 families would be displaced, many of them retirees.  The local community hall and sports grounds which services the entire Hay Point and beyond would be rendered unusable, the natural environment which has been restored by volunteers would suffer and indigenous use of Louisa Creek would cease, and the combined history of indigenous and white settlers would be erased.  There are other options available, some of which are financially cheaper, would have less effect on communities in the area, have less effect on Queensland's coastal environment and would not further dispossess the indigenous community from its traditional use of Louisa Creek, its estuary and surrounding waterways.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to not make this a project of State Significance and encourage proponents namely DBCTM & NQBP to seriously consider all other options, taking into consideration the number of persons who would be affected, the disastrous effect on the health and well being of these persons, the damage to Queensland's environment and the traditional uses of this area.
