This petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that health services available from the Gladstone Base Hospital continue to be reduced.  Residents are being required to travel to Rockhampton or Brisbane for operations or medical appointments and procedures.  This is at great cost to individuals and families physically, emotionally and financially.  As an electorate with significant industrial development currently and proposed in the near future, health services must increase in Gladstone in keeping with the growth projections.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to significantly increase funding directly to the Gladstone Base Hospital to ensure the re-establishment of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) thus increasing the range of operations and procedures available in Gladstone; increase specialist services; and improve staff training and retention.
