TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of the undersigned citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House, the sale of the old Queensland Rail yards in Yeppoon, for residential/retail development.  Although these QR landholdings represent a public asset of the State, there has been no community consultation regarding the future usage of this land.  Our town needs more parks and recreational areas to host community events, as it has outgrown the now inadequate Beaman Park.  A public swimming pool or sound bowl would also compliment such a park enormously, as Yeppoon is lacking in both.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to give its consideration to making this area a public space for all to enjoy, rather than selling it for the exclusive benefit of property developers.  One park like this would be more of an asset for our children than any number of shops and apartments.  We thank the House for its deliberation on this matter.
