TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the need to increase and improve all student achievements, engagement, and outcomes of the Western Cape College.  This need has been brought about as a direct result of inappropriate distribution of human and vocational training curriculum resources to address the Closing of the Gap initiative policies and programs handed down by Government.  This seems to have been handed down with little thought of how achieveable these ideas and ideals are without proper Professional and Para - professional staffing numbers.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to:

  • increase Professionals and Para - Professionals with knowledge in Academic, Cultural, Social, Emotional, and Extracurricular wellbeing of all students in a caring environment - lets set the College up to achieve significant Closing the Gap education outcomes and reform
  • increase Vocational Education Facilities to establish a Training Precinct using the former Weipa Hospital Site - lets engage and reengage all students
  • ensure that the Proposed Residential College (Hostel) is staffed by Education Queensland Professionals and Para Professional thereby offering continuity of policy and programs for students from Campus to College and vice versa, ie. The Residential College operator is Queensland Education.
