The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House, that Queensland Health is investigating the possibility of selling on the open market the unused hospital site at Miami (known locally as Miami Bushland) and comprising Lot 612 and Lot 683 in RP42591. Local residents are aggrieved at the possibility of the land being cleared and developed for intensive urban use. The land concerned is one of the few remaining pockets of native bushland of its type left in the area. Destruction of bushland on the site would have dire adverse effects on wildlife, particularly birds since clearing and developing this land would remove one of the few remaining natural environment high points on their flight paths. Your petitioners therefore request the House to ensure that this native bushland be retained in its natural state and that it is managed to protect native birds, animals, reptiles, the prominent landscape and recreational opportunities that this area provides.
