The petition of Electors of the Division of Maryborough draws to the attention of the House that the Maryborough Base Hospital has no renal unit.  Maryborough and surrounding area patients are required to travel to Hervey Bay for treatment.  At present, at least half of all renal care patients are from the Maryborough area which warrants their own renal unit in Maryborough.  Some patients are even required to travel further to Bundaberg as the Hervey Bay unit cannot cope with number of patients requiring treatment.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to urgently re-instate a renal unit in the Maryborough Hospital to service this increasing demand.
