The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the final EIS for the proposed Woolooga to Cooroy South (Eerwah Vale) alignment released by Powerlink on the 15th December 2009 is not fit for purpose.  The community are appalled by the potential impact on our EPBC and NC listed flora and fauna, as only superficial studies have been performed in the area.  The clearing of vegetation and habitat and the mitigation measures outlined in the EIS will destroy our unique flora and fauna by having a detrimental impact on the Noosa Biosphere and will jeopardise the last healthy population of koala in this wildlife corridor proposed for clearing by Powerlink.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to intervene and have Powerlink withdraw their EIS until proper and adequate studies are performed.  Furthermore, we request Powerlink to genuinely investigate the lower cost, lower environmental and social impact alternative alignment along the Bruce Highway where a designated infrastructure corridor already exists and which is currently undergoing upgrade.  As stated by the current Bligh Government "existing infrastructure easements should be used where possible".
