The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that they oppose the construction of a high density, three storey public housing project on the corner of Harpa and Oliva Streets, Palm Cove. This project, to be located in the heart of Palm Cove, is inconsistent with the tourist and residential amenity of this beachside village and has the potential to harm the local economy which is highly dependent on the iconic nature of Palm Cove as a much advertised destination. In addition, the area does not have a demonstrated need for public housing. Neither does it have the appropriate educational, medical, transport, shopping or social infrastructure normally required by public housing tenants.Your petitioners therefore request the House to halt the current public housing proposal for Palm Cove, and relocate the project to an area of demonstrated need, which also has appropriate infrastructure for the target population.
