Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House:1. the amount of assaults in the Gympie CBD; and2. the need for a police presence in the Gympie CBD on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 pm – 4 am (ie. Police Beat).Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take immediate action to help curb the violent and criminal acts perpetrated on our citizens when they leave licensed venues. Due to the lack of police presence and the escalating violence the cab ranks have become a high risk danger area thus leaving people with no other option than to walk home which is where the attacks are occurring. We therefore ask for additional police resourcing in the Gympie region from the hours of 10 pm to 4 am Friday and Saturday nights. We believe that an increased police presence will lessen these attacks and restore safety for our citizens.
