The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the orientation of the proposed Amity Point boat ramp does not represent a good solution to unique local conditions and, in fact, has the high potential for being unsafe in prevalent weather and tidal conditions. Your petitioners therefore request the House to immediately authorise relevant officers to implement a variation to the contract process to enable the necessary re-orientation of the proposed boat ramp (and for it to be built on the southern side of the excising high water ramps instead of over them) in order to eliminate this serious flaw and thus provide a safe environment for the boating fraternity. Given that the contractor has stated that such a reorientation presents no difficulties, such a variation should present no major barriers and would effectively address safety and workability issues.
