This petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House concerns of citizens about the funding available to the newly created Department of Communities. This department provides front line assistance to many of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community. In the 2009 State Budget the Treasurer of Queensland announced a $180m funding cut in all state government departments, described by the Treasurer as a 'productivity dividend'. Your petitioners are concerned about the effect this will have on officers of the Department to continue to provide meaningful and quality assistance and therefore request the House to review the decision to implement this 'productivity dividend' within the Department of Communities. Your petitioners urge you to provide full funding for those agencies that make up the Queensland Department of Communities.
