This petition of Queensland residents draws to attention of the House that the Regulatory Impact Statement for the proposed Cooloola Recreation Area released by the Queensland Labor Government restricts the rights of ordinary Queenslanders to access the environment by imposing a minimum three day vehicle access permit. We believe that the Government’s proposal will result in local Queenslanders losing their jobs, and fewer opportunities for families to enjoy recreational fishing activities. All this can be avoided whilst enhancing rather than compromising the management of environmental, social and safety issues by educating not regulating all stakeholders. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that there are no restrictions on ordinary Queenslanders access to the environment by not imposing a vehicle access permit in the proposed Cooloola Recreation Area.
