The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the facts that whilst Ipswich and adjacent western suburbs enjoy public transport from Queensland Rail and Westside buses, exceptions are the suburbs of Karalee, Barellan Point, Chuwar, Mount Crosby and Karana Downs north of the Warrego Highway, the nearest TransLink service being 2 km away from the Mt Crosby Rd/Warrego Highway junction. The population density of these suburbs may not justify urban service frequencies, but other areas of similar lower density receive Government support. In 2007 the Karalee-based Southern Cross Transit inaugurated a trial service, CityLink, between Ipswich Transit Centre and Indooroopilly via Karalee, Karana Downs and Kenmore. This fulfilled a real need, but is not part of the TransLink network, although the TransLink name appears on a recently erected bus shelter at Karalee suggesting that TransLink services stop there. Your petitioners therefore request the House to determine that the area between Bellbowrie and Tivoli be covered by TransLink so that Southern Cross Transit (or another operator in default) can provide services on a route between Ipswich, Kenmore and Indooroopilly via Karalee and Karana Downs, with fares and ticketing matching the TransLink zonal system, connecting with Brisbane buses at Indooroopilly and Kenmore, and Westside buses and QR at Ipswich Transit Centre. Without funding support, this innovative and valuable service will not continue.
