TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that we object to the proposed Asphalt plant and other types of polluting industries at Kunda Park Industrial Estate. The existing zoning as “core industry” permits heavy polluting industries such as asphalt plants that are harmful to the sensitive surrounding environmental (with declared wetlands, fish habitat, conservation areas, and listed threatened species), unhealthy to residents and children, and compromise the “tourist-attractive” visual amenities of the Sunshine Coast along our main entrance to Maroochydore. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that the Kunda Park industry estate is rezoned from its present “core industry” status to light and “green” industry zoning that will be safe for the environment, residents’ health and compatible with the present “tourist-attractive” amenities of the Sunshine Coast. The current zoning permits heavy polluting industries such as asphalt plants that are harmful to the surrounding environment, residents and amenities of the area.
