The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House; to the Moreton Bay Maine Park Draft Zoning Plan (Designated Areas). The speed reductions proposed for areas DA06, Weinam Creek, DA08 Karragarra W's, DA09, Krummell Passage will cause undue hardship to island residents through a 40% increase in travel times and disrupting timetables. Thus causing Bits Ferry Service to require another boat to maintain the same service, therefore increasing the fares to cover costs. Not to mention more greenhouse gas emissions (approx 2 tonnes Co2 per day), more noise pollution and more propellers in these sensitive waters for longer periods of travel. This will surely put the turtles and dugong that these speed reductions are meant to protect, at even more risk. Your petitioners therefore request the House to Grant an exemption from these speed reductions to: 1. The Bay Islands Transit System ferry service 2. The special unscheduled ambulance services. 3. Any other public transport service that may start up in the future.
