This Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws the attention of the House to following facts: • The Blackall Range region occupies a place of special environmental significance for Queensland • The region enjoys an unique and significant mix of environmental, scenic and social values which are widely and greatly non-materially valued by Queensland people. • These characteristics generate significant value to the Queensland economy, through tourism and other activities. • Significant changes to the existing environmental, social, commercial and cultural mix of the region will massively diminish or destroy the high value existing characteristics of the region. • The region is under present and increasing pressure for development incomparable with values which distinguish it, and which make up its core identity to Queensland people. Your Petitioners therefore request the house to add all parts of the present Maroochy Shires which lie within the Blackall Range region into Schedule 1 of the Iconic Queensland Places legislation.
