Born Assen, The Netherlands, 31 January 1961. Married to Stacey, three children. Bachelor of Dental Science (Hons) 1983 (University of Queensland). Prior to election Dental Surgeon in Ashmore and Surfers Paradise since February 1987.

Interests include family, theatre, exercising and rugby union, Melbourne Cup Winners (1968 - present) and Cuban Cigar Factories.
John-Paul is a Honorary Member of the Gold Coast Turf Club, Friends
of Gold Coast Botanic Gardens Inc, The Gold Coast Project for Homeless
Youth Inc,. He is also a member of the Brisbane Cricket Ground Trust and
the Main Beach Progress Association Inc. John-Paul is a patron of the
Surfers Paradise Brass Band, Spotlight Theatre, Surfers Paradise Surf
Life Saving Club, Surf Life Saving Queensland and Griffith Uni Knights
Colleges Rugby Club. Also Vice President of Broadbeach Surf Life Saving
Club, Vice Chairman, ANZAC Day Commemoration Committee of Queensland,
Member, Australasian Study of Parliament Group (Queensland Chapter).
